a history
November 23rd in 2011, British Columbia's Supreme Court ruled that Canada’s so called “anti-polygamy law” does not apply to unformalized polyamorous households – as long as they do not attempt to make a multi-marriage arrangement an official marriage in some form. Prior to this, according to the law, three or more people living in one dwelling "conjugally" could be sentenced to five years in prison. As such this is the date, on which living in multiple partners in Canada was recognised as legal and not a criminal act.
In 2016, Manchester Met University ran a Polyamory Day on 21 February.
The CPAA (Canadian Polyamory Advocacy Association) first launched National Polyamory Day in 2017. The CPAA advocates on behalf of Canadians who practice polyamory. It promotes legal, social, government, and institutional acceptance and support of all forms of polyamory, and advances the interests of the Canadian polyamorous community generally.
In 2021, POLYAMORY DAY: A digital showcase of UK and Ireland took place on the 27th November. The showcase features 3 social spaces, 2 workshops, 2 panel discussions and 3 talks and presentations. The event was attended by over 100 individuals from the UK and Ireland, as well as attendees from overseas.
